YWAM Fundraising

YWAM is a missions training and sending organization that requires its missionaries to raise their own support. To find out more about YWAM, click here. http://www.ywam.org
(Even though personally I haven't found great support raising training material within Youth With a Mission, it does have some great resources to inspire you in your work. Y.W.A.M. Publishing, Y.W.A.M. Connect, Y.W.A.M. Kona.)

From here I will assume you are a fellow Y.W.A.M.er and looking for support raising help. This whole site is dedicated to YOUR success. Remember you are in the missions BUSINESS. Along with all the other pages in this site, I thought I would add a few thoughts in regards to our organization and your fundraising efforts. Many young people would like to continue in missions, but have difficulty raising support so hopefully this website will be of benefit to you.

There is a tendency to over spiritualize the money part of what we do. We must all live by faith, but the very pragmatic work of fundraising is also a venture in faith. "If a man will not work, he shall not eat." II Thessalonians 3:10 I believe this can apply to missionaries who don't WORK at fundraising. It may also include forms of tent making.

Loren Cunningham and Jim Stier (YWAM President) shares some good wisdom in this area.

(YWAM has been given a prophetic word for this season. If you would like to read how it might apply to support raising - click here - YWAM Support Raising Word.

If missions is your choice of occupation it well serve you well to discover the tools and develop the skills to be a good fund raiser. Please absorb and practice the things taught in this web site. There is a reason we are sometimes sarcastically called Youth Without any Money.

Many lack support out of a wrongly taught Biblical view. There is not just one way to have faith for your support. Granted, one theory is to not let anyone human know and "trust" God. BUT - it is also very clear in scripture that asking for support and help is a walk of faith and humility also! Be sure you have a RHEMA word first if you feel you are NOT to ask anyone for support. Simply - I see the most common biblical method of raising support is one of letting needs be known and the Body of Christ responding to those needs. Paul not only asked for help for others, but his own needs as well. I will leave this to your own Bible Study, but my appeal is not to reject the methods taught in this web site because you deem them less spiritual. They are biblically based. Obey God, Trust Him, and more often then not this means WORK on your fundraising :-)

In all your activities, be connecting and collecting people's contact information. From your fellow DTS students, and every contact from then on you should be building a mailing list to send correspondence to. Include the people and leaders in your school, base, church, in your thinking.

We have included some of our past newsletters for you to read so you can get an idea of how we accomplish some of these things. Each newsletter will also have a tip for doing your own. YWAM Support Raising Newsletters

Youth With a Mission is an awesome organization, or I wouldn't be a part of it and be so passionate about it. I would love to see everyone who wants to carry on in missions do so, and NO ONE having to leave because of lack of money.

Betty Barnett, a fellow Y.W.A.M.er, wrote a good book to add to your studies of support raising: Friend Raising
