Support Raising Training Outline: FYi Secure Area
Part of your support raising training is being diligent in working with your current friends, family and acquaintances in looking for partners and supporter for your missions work. When done well, coupled with the referrals they can provide, this ever growing "pool" of potential supporters should be enough for most missions work. It takes effort and skill to work through your current list of people, and then get referrals, but it is worth it. Only as a last resort do we suggest "cold-calling" or using lists of leads, etc. We value relationships and the cold calling method is not only the most difficult, it is the furthest removed from building a network of relationships.
Support raising training skills must be developed to have success. A move to cold calling or using leads can be premature and distracting if you haven't properly gleaned from your warm market and referrals first. Be sure to look over the page on
Barriers
before you resort to cold calling. My instincts usually tell me the problem of lack of support or supporters is found in that list of barriers, not in not having enough people to talk to. If you need to cold call, be professional - and I highly encourage anyone in that situation to especially note the last paragraph on this page. These secure pages are dedicated to those missionaries attempting to raise their own support, work on their support raising training, and need to expand their network.
