Joint Meetings

Referrals are those names given to you by your current supporters or others that you probably do not know personally, but you now have expanded your potential supporters list. As mentioned elsewhere, referrals have a better rate of success than a cold list simply because you come "recommended" by a friend of a friend.

This page will deal with the scenario of your friend helping set up a time where the three parties can meet; you, him, and the new friend.

It is important to "coach" your friend on how and what to say in them reaching out to the person you do not know yet - here are some pointers for your friend wanting to help you with referrals:

*Pray for favor!

*Tell him to ask his friend for a SHORT appointment with the two of you. Asking face to face is the best, but if not, over the phone. Here is what that might sound like:

"Hi Jill, I have a favor to ask of you. Martha and I have joined Curt & Kay Johnson in their missionary work. They are doing some good stuff in the Pacific with YWAM, Youth With a Mission. My favor is to see if you would meet with us for an hour over lunch this week to look at what they are doing. Their are looking to expand their support base, but they won't be pushy - they respect each person's heart and ability to hear from God. We just want to get this information to you so you can pray about joining us. Would Thursday work?"

Coach your friend to set up an appointment. Encourage them NOT to get into telling their friend about your work over the phone. If the appointment is over a week away, a letter from you can be helpful:

"Dear Jill:

Just a quick note. Bill Smith let me know we would be having lunch together on the 3rd. Kay & I are missionaries with YWAM - Youth With a Mission. Here is our website for further information. http://www.johnsonfamilymissions.org (or your blog or organizations page)

We are looking for partners for our journey to expand our work in Asia-Pacific region of the world.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to hear our hearts and vision and how we can work together.

Blessings,

Curt & Kay Johnson

Send a copy of the letter to Bill, the friend who referred Jill, also.

Regardless of the outcome, follow through with a care or letter thanking them for their time and consideration, and that you look forward to connecting in the future.
